What does the underscore in the Guitar Hero 3 cheats mean?

I’m trying to help my son with the cheats in Guitar Hero III. He has them all except Unlock Everything.
we can’t figure out what the underscore means in the cheat codes.
Anyone know?

i assume it looks something like

the underscores replace the buttons your not supposed to press

I’m not sure but maybe it is a break/strum/whammy bar.
